Bear in mind, much of those comments come from trolls and users lacking participation in the trenches (by that I mean in the queue). Their comments and posts lack any rationality or logic. They're heated and emotional.

thanks Gerard, you are right. and i've not been "outta there", at least not quite yet, it's too deeply ingrained in my habits. but as the days go on i notice more and more of the people i used to look to for the good content, haven't been contributing nearly as much. maybe they're just busy?
and as to the positive post you referenced, it looks like it died at 199 diggs -- whereas the one i linked got nearly 3200 diggs and was a top story that day. so ... there's that.
